"To give you some background, I am 56 – soon to be 57, married to a wonderful man Jason for 18 years, and we have 6 fur babies – 5 cats and 1 dog!
Both my husband and I work full time (I’ve been working since I was 13 years old!) but we always seemed to never have enough to pay our bills. It was a constant battle to shuffle things around to pay everything each month and still live our life. I have always been frugal having grown up in a family who frequently went to garage sales and thrift stores. At the time as a kid I HATED it! When I got on my own, I spent whatever I wanted on whatever I wanted. As you can imagine I ended up in a lot of credit card debt."
"I took that credit card debt into a marriage with a man who also had some debt and who truly did not know how to manage money. Together we spent weekends shopping for fun and entertainment, many weekends spending several hundred dollars eating out and buying just “stuff”. Nothing fancy, no trips, no new cars, etc. As a matter of fact, we never went on vacation and had old Junker cars because we
“couldn’t afford” anything different. We were living with a poverty mindset.
I started to get beyond frustrated when I thought about all the years we wasted, both making fairly good money and not having any savings and “not being able” to pay off debt."
"I started to get beyond frustrated when I thought about all the years we wasted, both making fairly good money and not having any savings and “not being able” to pay off debt. I started following numerous budgeting folks on YouTube back in late September of 2018. Through one of those videos, I found Jennifer and Intentional Mom and found her content to be easy to listen to, and practical MOST OF ALL PRACTICAL! Her passion came through and it was contagious. I have made many attempts at budgeting, all types of budgets, budgets that were more labor intensive
than anything. I even paid for budgeting software, budgeting programs that did not help because they did not get at the root of our spending and debt issues."
"Some of the things we’ve accomplished in about 1 year and 4 months are as follows:
We no longer pay late fees (that was a nightmare every month!)
We paid off 2 credit cards - 1 was $6,000 and the other was $2,000
We were able to save enough to get 2 decent used cars
We have an emergency fund - such a relief!
We have saved TONS doing several no spend months
We've found things to sell & extra things to do to make extra money to pay off debt
We saved cash to take a cruise to Mexico this past Christmas!!!
Finally using Thriving On A Dime has changed my/our financial mindset completely. I am happy to say my first and FINAL budgeting experience with Jennifer and Thriving on a Dime is and continues to be awesome! There is nothing better than reducing financial stress and feeling secure and on the (long) road to being debt free! THERE IS HOPE!"
